Discerning Language Arts is your Christian Worldview, high school, no-grading, no-nagging solution for language arts all in one. You can take a break from language arts and know that someone else is there mentoring your student and answering their questions.  

Discerning LA has 3 unique, 12 week terms each year. For literature we use Sharon Watson's Illuminating Literature: Characters in Crisis.  Each term students study 2 pieces of literature and learn to analyze the book for themes and messages so students learn to read with eyes wide open and to prove their findings with evidence from the text.  We use the textbook Power in Your Hands by Sharon Watson as a writing learning source. (This text is for all of high school and makes a great reference book, but there is plenty there for 3 or even 4 years!).

Unlike other high school language arts programs out there, Discern to Learn is more than a video course, more than a virtual class!  

Your gr 9-12 student will learn:

• to think critically and write persuasively
• write effective and excellent essays
• to answer hard questions that people will ask about their faith 
• to ask for help from the ever present mentor/teacher (full 1:1 support included!)
• to organize their schedule and take on their tasks as a personal responsibility
• find motivation inside themselves and become self-disciplined instead of other disciplined.

Each term includes:

• weekly interactive peer motivated virtual class
• weekly virtual Mindset Momentum Clinic
• personal feedback on every assignment
• full 1:1 support
• 2 parent-student-teacher meetings
• a final report
