Description
This course is designed to fulfill the Language Arts requirement for 9th grade students. Language Arts 9 covers the four core areas outlined by the Common Core State Standards: reading literature, reading non-fiction, writing, and speaking and listening. The reading instruction emphasizes citing textual evidence, identifying main ideas and themes, analyzing characters, interpreting words, and understanding text structures and perspectives. The writing component focuses on argument, informative/explanatory, and narrative genres. Students will engage in various discussion formats and use digital media and public speaking to present their findings. (semester 1 of 2)
