Short Summary
Class Information
Description
In this self-paced course—where there are no live sessions, and students can access materials at their convenience—a series of instructional videos will guide participants through the process of preparing five beginner-friendly family meals. Each video presentation will feature a step-by-step demonstration aimed at empowering students to cook with confidence.
This course caters to kids and teens but is equally suitable for adults seeking to enhance their culinary skills. It challenges the notion that youngsters are limited to basic cooking tasks, such as assembling pizza on an English muffin. The recipes shared are authentic dishes regularly enjoyed by my family and friends.
Students are encouraged to pause the videos as needed to ensure their safety and achieve successful meal completion. The flexibility of self-paced learning eliminates the pressure to keep up with others.
Lesson one contains a Kitchen Safety & Tips video, essential for viewing before any cooking begins. Adult supervision is recommended for younger students to ensure a safe cooking environment. Throughout the course, safety measures and kitchen tips will be emphasized by the instructor during the cooking demonstrations.
The course curriculum includes the following lessons:
- Lesson 1: Introduction to Kitchen Tools and Safety
- Lesson 2: Layered Beef & Noodle Casserole
- Lesson 3: Baked Broccoli Chicken
- Lesson 4: Cherry Chicken Pasta Salad
- Lesson 5: Cheesy Pizza Casserole
These recipes are intentionally straightforward, focusing on teaching students how to utilize common kitchen tools, practice measuring and cutting ingredients, clean up as they cook, and ultimately gain confidence in their culinary abilities. The lessons are structured from the simplest to the most challenging to facilitate progressive learning.
This is intended to be a follow up class to my original Beginner Family Meals class (Beginner Meals for Kids & Teens). If your learner has no experience in the kitchen, I recommend taking that class before this one as those recipes are a little more simple than these.
This is a Beginner level cooking class.
*Levels of Cooking Classes*
- Beginner classes are for students with little to no experience in the kitchen. Class will focus on teaching and reinforcing the basics of measuring, different types of mixing, cooking of ground meat and chopping skills along with kitchen safety.
- Beginner to Intermediate classes are for students with some experience assisting an adult in the kitchen. This means that the student has assisted with mixing and simple cutting and possibly assisted in cooking ground meat. Class will focus on teaching and reinforcing the basics of measuring, different types of mixing (beating, folding, well combined, etc), proper cooking of basic meats, slight multi-tasking, cutting and dicing skills along with kitchen safety.
- Intermediate classes are for students with some experience in the kitchen, making simple dishes on their own (boxed macaroni & cheese, boxed cake mix, etc). Students should have experience mixing and some chopping. They should also have an understanding of what it means to cook and crumble meat. Class will focus on practicing mixing types (beating, folding, well combined, etc), cutting and dicing, proper cooking techniques, slight multi-tasking, and learning culinary terms along with kitchen safety.
- Intermediate Plus classes are for students with fairly regular experience in the kitchen. Students should have experience making complete dishes without assistance, understand the meaning of culinary terms (fine dice, cooked through, fold, etc), capable of slight multi-tasking and be comfortable using basic kitchen appliances. Class will focus on practicing basic and more advanced cooking techniques & ingredients, cooking different types of meat to proper doneness, more advanced multi-tasking along with kitchen safety.
