Description
This asynchronous course will help learners build a foundation in reading, listening to, and writing poetry, while also developing strong writing skills. The aim of the course is for learners to appreciate poetry and feel comfortable writing their own poems.
Course Schedule
Week 1: "I Am From" poems (including video recording to share)
Week 2: Haikus and Grocery Store Ad Poems
Week 3: Found Poems and Blackout Poetry
Week 4: Langston Hughes author study
Week 5: Five Senses Poems and Riddle Poems
Week 6: Two-Sided Poems
Week 7: "Never Have I" and Chance Poems (including Roll-the-Dice activity)
Week 8: Pop Music and Classical Poetry
Week 9: Odes and Pantoums
Week 10: Collaborative Poems
Week 11: Sonnets
Week 12: Robert Frost author study
Each week, learners will receive poem templates for the specific form they are working on, along with guided video instruction.
***This Is An Asynchronous Class, meaning I will be providing feedback on any enrichments or assessments you turn in to me***
No Prior Knowledge Required!
Whether learners are familiar with the poem forms listed above or not, this is the perfect time for them to delve deeper into their writing, be creative without fear of judgment, and create meaningful poems. No prior knowledge or poem-writing experience is necessary. I have specifically chosen poem forms that are easy for students to complete and are fun and engaging.
