Description

American Literature: A Full-Year High School Course, is a no-busywork, study guide bundle will provide your teen with the literature portion of high school English/Language Arts course.

As with all 7Sisters curriculum, the motto is: "Don't kill the book!" by over teaching. Instead, each guide focuses on one or two literature analysis themes. Teens tell us that they learn well and enjoy the books more with this light-hearted approach.

The guides include instructions for leveling up to Honors using the easy-to-follow suggestions in the "how to use this curriculum" introductory material.

American Literature: A Full-Year High School Course comes complete with:

  • study guides for nine books, each including:
    • background information
    • vocabulary
    • supplemental ideas
    • and answer keys for each guide (except Little Women and Scarlet Letter because those consist of questions that are of a personally reflective nature with no clear "right answer." Any reasonable answer that displays thought is acceptable.)

You will receive two zipped files:

  • An American Literature file for the student includes the introduction to the course and nine study guides.
    • Student study guides are fillable forms so the student can answer the questions directly on their computer.
  • A Parent Info & Answer Key file also includes the introduction to the course.
    • It also includes parent information and answer keys for each of the study guides.

The literature study guides include:

  • A Separate Peace by John Knowles
  • A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
  • A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
  • The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne (NOTE: There is no answer key for this guide. The questions are of a personally reflective nature with no clear "right answer." Any reasonable answer that displays thought is acceptable.)
  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (viewed through a lens of American Transcendentalism) (NOTE: There is no answer key for this guide. The questions are of a personally reflective nature with no clear "right answer." Any reasonable answer that displays thought is acceptable.)
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  • The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
