One Sound Music exists to inspire human harmony and reconciliation with the power of music. We care about more than just budding musicians but rather the whole person and how music education can enrich not just the student but the whole family. When the student feels they belong, not because of how they perform but simply belong…period, they will excel to even greater heights; thus, our slogan, “loving the music…out of em.”
What we offer are lessons on violin, viola, erhu and cello and high quality instruments to rent or purchase. We also organize recitals and community service performances around the community.
Lessons are given primarily from our home base in Monroe but also from other rented studio spaces in Bothell, Redmond and Kirkland. We hold outdoor park recitals in the summer and rent out theaters and churches in the winter and spring recitals. The goal eventually is operation solely out of Monroe.
The One Sound school benefits all types of families especially international families from who are trying to integrate into society and find education opportunities for their kids. We speak Mandarin as well and have four years of experience living and teaching overseas which gives us special insight in relating to these families.
We are comfortable teaching students of many learning styles, and we are described as having a kind and patient approach. These learning styles have ranged from the autistic spectrum, ADHD, as well as children learning English as a second language. We can also communicate with Mandarin speaking family members and help them support their students at home, while living in an English-speaking environment.
We are set apart from other schools because we care a lot about each individual child and their growth not only in music but in character and life skills such as discipline, perseverance and humility. We are also equipped with various approaches to learning a stringed instrument, from the Suzuki Method, Pascale Method, or O’Connor method, as well as Barbara Barber’s solo books. We meet each student exactly where they’re at and cheer them onward toward their potential. After teaching private lessons for nearly twenty years, I have a distinct perspective on instrument quality and suitability for students and so we select the best instruments to rent and sell to a student that will serve to inspire them in their playing for years on end.
Lessons include posture, technique scales, etudes and solo material but will of course depend on the student's level.Â
