Patricia Saylor

As a retired public school educator and administrator with more than 30 years of experience, I remain passionate about helping my students achieve their full potential, no matter what subject I'm teaching.  

I am the founder of Saylor Financial Fundamentals, where I make stock market investing and options trading accessible for novice investors.  I have taught hundreds of adults from more than 15 countries how to get started in the stock market and how to use safe options trading strategies.  My book, The Novice Investor's Guide to Stocks, Funds, and Options (Second Edition), is a valuable resource for my students.  

As the Head of School at Solterra Way Cottage School, I provide personalized educational assessments, academic support, and enrichment to private students. My goal is to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to excel.

My experience includes helping fellow parents use American Sign Language (ASL) with their Deaf or Hard of Hearing children, fostering effective communication and connection within families. Parent are often interested to learn about this interesting piece of Deaf History, connecting Abraham Lincoln to Gallaudet University and Abraham Lincoln's hands at The Lincoln Memorial.     

As a gifted education specialist, I often use Michael Clay Thompson's excellent Language Arts Materials to help advanced students deepen their understanding of English grammar, sentence structure, and poetics.   

I'm a big fan of Maria Montessori's philosophy and curriculum, and am especially in awe of her mathematical brilliance. I enjoy using Montessori materials to lead curious Math students to discover new concepts in increasingly abstract ways. 

Students enjoy working with me because I provide engaging lessons, constructive feedback, and a respectful, supportive atmosphere. I am committed to inclusivity and strive to be actively anti-racist, ensuring all cultural backgrounds and genders feel welcomed and respected in my classes.

On a personal note, I raised two Deaf children adopted as preschoolers, as well as a home-grown son and a stepson.  I was the kind of mom who learned to sew so I could make my own cloth diapers!   

With a BA in Spanish and Education from UNC-Chapel Hill and an MA in Linguistics from Gallaudet University, I am fluent in ASL and conversant in Spanish. I hold certifications from the State of NC, The American Montessori Society, and The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
