Total live classes: 4
Description
Through a series of assigned essays and live meetings, learners will master the writing process, including writing conventions, essay structure, building a line of reasoning, connecting ideas, MLA format, and more.
Academic Writing Course Progression: Before each session, learners will prepare by reading about the upcoming essay style, selecting an essay prompt, completing an outline, and submitting it for review. I will provide detailed feedback on the outline and learners will submit a rough draft in response. After reviewing the draft, I will develop a personalized learning plan for the next session. During our sessions, we will discuss essay improvements and preview the following essay assignment. Learners will then submit a final draft for my feedback.
Academic Writing Essay Styles
- Lesson 1: Expository Essay (Informational)
- Lesson 2: Personal Narrative (Tell a Story)
- Lesson 3: Persuasive (Rhetorical Appeals)
- Lesson 4: Analytical (Literary Analysis)
Take the Leap: Is your learner ready to take your essay writing to the next level? Let's work together to transform ideas into a polished essay. I will guide your learner through each step, from the spark of inspiration to the final draft.
Educator Information: Valerie Stone is a home educator and parent who found herself navigating the unchartered waters of autism and ADHD over 17 years ago, during a time when research and information were sparse. Diving into the depths of learning, she poured over education research, talked with special educators, and experimented with several different curriculums. Emerging from the fog, Valerie discovered techniques to help learners develop a writer's voice. Over the years, those techniques have been shared with local and online homeschool students and families through 1:1 tutoring and group courses.
