About Valerie Stone

About Me:

Hello! My husband and I live near Cincinnati, Ohio with our three children: two have graduated and one is starting college credit plus classes. Throughout their school experience, we were a homeschool family. During this time, however, I found myself constantly searching for new methods to reach each child, as each learner approached the material in a vastly different way: one child was on the autism spectrum, one child had ADHD, and the third child found everything easy to learn. This experience sharpened me as an educator because I never gave up until I found something that helped each child acquire the necessary knowledge and success. Over the past 8 years, I have shifted much of my focus to teaching English Literature and Composition to in-person and online homeschool learners. I love literature, writing, and grammar, and I am passionate about helping students of all abilities reach their full potential.

My Philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that every student has unique gifts and abilities. I encourage students to grow from “where they are,” and I tailor my teaching methods to the individual student’s needs. I believe that every assignment should be an opportunity for students to open up new ways of thinking and break the barriers that hinder their progress. I provide positive feedback based on completed requested elements while adding small suggestions for improvement.

Passion for English:

I firmly believe that "it is the love of literature that inspires others to love literature" (Valerie Stone).
