Description
This course is designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement (AP) Research exam by developing their skills in conducting independent research, analyzing data, and synthesizing findings. Through a series of guided inquiries, students will explore a research topic of their choice, develop research questions, gather and analyze data, and present their findings in a scholarly manner. The course will focus on building proficiency in research design, data collection methods, statistical analysis, and academic writing necessary for success in the AP Research performance tasks.
Course Objectives:
Understand the research process and ethical considerations in research.
Develop research questions and hypotheses for inquiry-based investigations.
Design and implement research methodologies appropriate to the chosen topic.
Collect and analyze data using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods.
Synthesize research findings to draw evidence-based conclusions.
Communicate research findings effectively through written and oral presentations.
Demonstrate proficiency in the AP Research performance tasks (Academic Paper and Presentation and Oral Defense).
This course emphasizes hands-on research experiences, collaboration, and feedback to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the AP Research exam and beyond. Emphasis will be placed on fostering intellectual curiosity, ethical reasoning, and effective communication skills essential for college-level research and scholarship.
