Short Summary
Class Information
Description
This self-paced course provides instructional videos for students to access at their convenience, eliminating the need for live classes. Through these videos, I'll demonstrate the step by step preparation of five beginner-friendly family meals, complete with recipes.
While the course is geared towards kids and teens, it's also suitable for adults aiming to boost their kitchen confidence. I firmly believe in challenging young learners beyond basic cooking methods like assembling pizza on an English muffin. The recipes shared are authentic dishes I frequently make for my own family and friends.
Students are encouraged to pause the videos as needed for safety and successful meal completion. This flexibility is a hallmark of self-paced learning, ensuring students can progress at their own pace.
Upon registration, students receive a Welcome Post featuring a Kitchen Safety & Tips video to watch before any cooking begins. An adult should supervise young students and ensure their safe participation. Throughout the course, I'll emphasize safety and offer kitchen tips relevant to each cooking step.
The course curriculum includes:
- Lesson 1: Introduction to Kitchen Tools and Safety
- Lesson 2: Cranberry Chicken Casserole
- Lesson 3: Creamy Taco Dip
- Lesson 4: Pepperoni Roll
- Lesson 5: Taco Salad
- Lesson 6: Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Over Noodles
The recipes are intentionally straightforward, aiming to familiarize students with kitchen tools, develop their measuring and ingredient prep skills, cultivate good cleaning habits, and boost self-confidence. They're arranged by complexity, with Lessons 2 and 4 involving oven use, Lessons 5 and 6 requiring stovetop cooking, and Lesson 3 needing an electric hand or stand mixer. Lessons 3 and 5 also involve produce cutting with a knife and cutting board.
In Lesson 2, students will be guided through chicken cutting. Alternatively, parents can handle this step if preferred, recognizing that younger children may find it challenging to handle this meat.
This is a Beginner cooking class.
*Levels of Cooking Classes*
- Beginner classes are for students with little to no experience in the kitchen. Class will focus on teaching and reinforcing the basics of measuring, different types of mixing, cooking of ground meat and chopping skills along with kitchen safety.
- Beginner to Intermediate classes are for students with some experience assisting an adult in the kitchen. This means that the student has assisted with mixing and simple cutting and possibly assisted in cooking ground meat. Class will focus on teaching and reinforcing the basics of measuring, different types of mixing (beating, folding, well combined, etc), proper cooking of basic meats, slight multi-tasking, cutting and dicing skills along with kitchen safety.

Class will focus on practicing mixing types (beating, folding, well combined, etc), cutting and dicing, proper cooking techniques, slight multi-tasking, and learning culinary terms along with kitchen safety.
- Intermediate Plus classes are for students with fairly regular experience in the kitchen. Students should have experience making complete dishes without assistance, understand the meaning of culinary terms (fine dice, cooked through, fold, etc), capable of slight multi-tasking and be comfortable using basic kitchen appliances. Class will focus on practicing basic and more advanced cooking techniques & ingredients, cooking different types of meat to proper doneness, more advanced multi-tasking along with kitchen safety.
