Description

Class Description: 6-Week Online Colored Pencil Art Class for High School Students

Class Experience:This 6-week online colored pencil art class is designed to build a strong foundation in drawing and coloring techniques for high school students, ages 14-18. We will explore essential skills, including understanding value scales, mastering the color wheel, and developing blending techniques. Through creative projects like drawing a translucent red gummy bear and realistic Hershey kisses, students will learn to render textures, light, shadow, and transparency effectively.

What will be taught?Students will learn how to:

  • Create and use value scales to depict light and shadow.
  • Understand color theory and apply it using the color wheel.
  • Develop smooth color transitions and blending techniques.
  • Apply these skills to draw complex objects with realistic textures.

Topics Covered:

  • Basic colored pencil techniques: hatching, cross-hatching, and layering.
  • Creating and using value scales and color wheels.
  • Blending techniques for smooth gradients and transitions.
  • Drawing translucent objects and capturing textures like metallic and matte surfaces.

Class Structure:Each week will focus on a specific topic, with a mix of instruction, demonstration, and hands-on practice:

  • Weeks 1-3: Focus on foundational skills, including value scales, color theory, and blending techniques.
  • Weeks 4-6: Apply these skills to two engaging projects: a translucent gummy bear and realistic Hershey kisses.

Teaching Method:The class is interactive and hands-on, featuring:

  • Live Demonstrations: I will provide step-by-step demonstrations, sharing my screen and showing techniques in real-time.
  • Guided Practice: Students will follow along, practicing techniques as I demonstrate, with immediate feedback.
  • Discussion and Q&A: Each session will include time for questions and open discussion to encourage critical thinking and creativity.
  • Group Critique: At the end of the course, we will have a group critique to share our work, offer constructive feedback, and celebrate progress.

Teaching Style:My teaching style is supportive, engaging, and tailored to the pace of each student. I combine structured lessons with creative freedom, encouraging students to explore their artistic voice while mastering fundamental techniques. The class will be dynamic, with a mix of lectures, interactive discussions, visual demonstrations, and practical exercises.

Learner Interaction:Students will interact with me directly throughout each session, both during live demonstrations and guided practice. There will be opportunities for individual feedback, and I will encourage students to ask questions and share their progress. The final critique session will foster a collaborative learning environment where students learn from each other’s work and insights.

This class aims to build confidence, develop essential colored pencil skills, and spark creativity in every young artist.
