Description

In this self-paced Early Modern World course, learners step into the shoes of explorers, monarchs, revolutionaries, and philosophers, navigating the transformative events that defined 1450–1815.

Here, they’re not just students—they’re advisors to kings, citizens of Revolutionary France, and even Napoleon himself! Over ten action-packed weeks, learners won’t just study history—they’ll experience it.

From advising Henry VIII on political and religious dilemmas to charting new seas as an early European explorer, learners will take on roles like Ottoman advisors, French revolutionaries, or even Napoleon, tackling diplomacy, innovation, and social change through immersive simulations.

Through creative projects like Renaissance Training and Enlightenment Meme Creation, learners will explore the bold ideas of the era. They’ll also construct 3D scenes in the Peep-Into History Diorama Project and "dig up dirt" on infamous rulers like Louis XIV and Ivan the Terrible in the "Who’s the Worst?" Absolute Monarch Competition, competing to prove their monarch was the most absolute of all!

From the artistic revival of the Renaissance to the political upheavals of the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, this course combines critical thinking, creative challenges, and historical role-play to bring the past to life in fun, meaningful ways.

What’s Included:

  • 10 Pre-Recorded Lessons: Self-paced, no live meetings required
  • 10 Weeks of Personalized Teacher Support: Direct feedback, optional office hours, and tailored guidance
  • Weekly Materials: Handouts, activities, and interactive challenges that make history engaging and accessible
  • Creative Projects: Dive into activities like the "Who’s the Worst?" Absolute Monarch Competition

Absolute Monarch Project:

Learners will participate in a fun competition to determine history’s most notorious absolute ruler. Using teacher-provided resources—and optional additional research—they’ll craft creative presentations (Google Slides, skits, videos, puppet shows, etc.) showcasing their monarch. The project highlights a biography of the ruler and the reasons they’re the “most absolute.”
