Description

This module closely follows the scope & sequence outlined in the College Board AP Human Geography Course Description for Unit 1: Thinking Geographically (worth 8-10% of AP exam score.)

The curriculum in this module has been modified to be accessible to a wider range of ages, abilities, and learning types. Put your toe in the water of Human Geography and discover more about the world around you.

Different Types of Maps and What They Tell You: We'll start our adventure by looking at different kinds of maps. From physical to political, thematic to topographic, each map tells a special story about our world. Discover what these maps show and how they are different.

How Geographers Collect and Use Data: Geographers are like Earth detectives. Learn about the tools and methods they use to gather information, and how this information helps us understand the world better.

Data Analysis at Different Scales: Scale is very important in geography. We'll see how looking at data from different viewpoints helps us understand the world in different ways.

Cultural Ecology: We'll explore the concept of Environmental Determinism, examining how nature influences human activities, and dive into Possibilism, where we see how cultures adapt and innovate in response to their environment.

Cultural Regions: Discover the fascinating world of Cultural Regions, identifying how culture shapes geographical areas.

The Gravity Model and Human-Environment Interaction: Learn about Distance Decay, understanding how geographical distance impacts cultural interactions.
