ONLINE OCEANOGRAPHY CLASS DESCRIPTION
Full syllabus and optional lab materials on our website.
If you have a student aged 12-17 with a passion for the ocean, this course is perfect for them! This is the only full-year oceanography homeschool class taught by a degreed marine biologist. This intensive, science-focused class goes beyond a simple overview, delving deep into the four branches of oceanography: biological, physical, geological, and chemical.
Students who complete our full year of Oceanography can opt to attend a 5-day hands-on workshop in Bocas del Toro, Panama, in late April/early May. This incredible opportunity offers daily fieldwork both in and on the water, allowing students to apply the knowledge they've gained throughout the year. Don't miss out! For more details, visit our Panama Marine Science Workshops page.
OCEANOGRAPHY COURSE FORMAT
Classes are asynchronous. No live meetings. View lessons on your schedule within the designated timeframe (2 weeks to complete each lesson plan). Expect 1.5-2 hours to work through the lesson plan each week, and an additional 2-5 hours working on assignments (depending on the chosen assignment and time management skills).
Each lesson includes a fully narrated PowerPoint presentation, complete with images and videos to enhance the learning experience. Students will use our learning management system, Canvas, to access their lessons, print worksheets, take quizzes, view and submit assignments, participate in discussions, and check grades and instructor feedback.
