Are you tired of driving your child to music lessons? Do you struggle to find time for lessons in your busy schedule, knowing you have to add travel time? Look no further--online lessons are available!
I have taught online ukulele lessons since 2020 when everything shut down with covid. After things opened back up, many parents (and teachers!) found that they didn't want to return to in-person lessons. I continue to teach many of my "covid" online students to this day, due to the convenience of taking lessons in the comfort of your own home! If you are concerned about how online lessons will work, I'd encourage you to give it a try.
In these weekly private one on one ukulele lessons, beginning, intermediate and early advanced ukulele students will learn how to play their ukulele.
Beginner students will be using either the Hal Leonard Ukulele for Kids books (ages 7-11) or the Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1 (ages 12+). Books should be purchased by the students before class begins.
No prior knowledge is required. Students should have a soprano (small), concert (medium) or baritone (large) 4-string ukulele to use for all classes.
In this class, beginner students will learn the history of the ukulele, basic music symbols (such as rhythms, note names and note values) picking, strumming and chords.
After learning the basics of how to hold and tune their ukulele, beginning students will learn to pick a variety of songs, using both picking and strumming techniques.
Intermediate and Early advanced students will be assigned more advanced method books and will continue to learn more difficult picking and strumming patterns and chords.
We will progress through the book at the student's pace. Students will be assigned 1 or more pages to practice between lessons.
Due to the nature of private instrument lessons, I require a student's camera to be on at all times. It should be pointed at the student's fingers on their instrument so I can best help with proper technique. I will send a picture of the ideal camera position before lessons start.
Since practice is an important part of learning an instrument, students should practice 15+ minutes per day for 4-5 days per week, for a minimum of 60 minutes of practice per week. Practice logs will be provided for students to write down the pages to practice and the number of minutes they practice per week.
If a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class and the class is not eligible for a refund. If the student needs to cancel class, I will reschedule if possible or issue a credit, as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In general, students are allowed to cancel/reschedule 1 lesson every 8 weeks (with 24+ hours notice). Exceptions may be made in emergency situations.
If I as a teacher have a scheduling conflict, I will either contact you to reschedule for a different time or issue a credit for the next month's lessons.
I have Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music and 20 years of experience. I have taught this particular curriculum in school settings for 10+ years. I am passionate about music and look forward to teaching you to play your ukulele!

~My daughter enjoys having April for her teacher and looks forward class each week. I like that April provides feedback after each class to let my daughter know how she's doing.
