Studio Admission
Lessons take place online through Zoom or Farplay and are available in 45 minute and 60 minute time slots.
To ensure that I am a good fit for you, studio admission is a two-step process:
- Discovery Call (free): A 15 - 20 minute Zoom meeting between me, the prospective student, and their parent/guardian. During the call, we discuss goals and learn more about each other. You also have a chance to learn more about online lessons in general. Often times, this call provides a way to "break the ice" between me and a student before they sing for me. After this call, the next step is the Initial Fit Lesson.
- Initial Fit Lesson: During this session, I evaluate the prospective student so I can prepare a plan that meets their needs and level. We will sing together and I also ask the student to sing something for me. This can be anything - even "Happy Birthday". We'll talk further about their goals and (if appropriate) what I am hearing as we work together. After this lesson, I will provide a plan that will include recommended lesson length and any music books that need to be purchased. This lesson is 60 minutes and costs $60.
Cost
My base lesson cost (drop-in rate*) is $90 for 45 minutes.
I offer two lesson options that reduce the per-lesson cost:
8 Lesson Punchcards*: $81/lesson
Semester Tuition**:
Fall Semester (12 weeks & 2 bonus weeks): $882***
Winter/Spring Semester (18 weeks & 3 bonus weeks): $1323***
*Drop In & Lesson Punchcards offer the flexibility of bi-weekly lessons and the ability to come and go as you need. You will have access to my schedule and can book your own lessons. You do not need to commit to a day/time if you do not want to. Punchcards expire 6 months from the day they are purchased. Unused lessons are forfeited.
**Tuition packages are for weekly lessons. The bonus weeks at the end of the tuition session can be used as make-ups for lessons. If the student does not cancel during the tuition session, these weeks are bonus lessons. For example, a student does not cancel during the Fall session and opts to take lessons during the bonus week - the student receives 14 lessons (instead of 12) for the Fall session. If a student needs to cancel, they are welcome to try to reschedule their lesson instead of waiting for a bonus week. If a student cancels more lessons than they have bonus weeks, the additional lessons are forfeited and not made up.
*** Half of the total cost will be due upfront. The remainder will be divided evenly across the semester and billed monthly. Tuition already paid is non-refundable, but if you opt to leave the studio, you will not be billed for the remainder.
Typical Weekly Lesson
While the contents of lessons vary from student-to-student, they generally consist of three parts:
- Vocal Warm Ups & Exercises - For younger students, this consists of exercises that teach basic concepts while allowing them to explore their voices. For older students, these exercises focus on specific skills.
- Music Theory, Ear Training, & Sight Singing - Most of my students are assigned a workbook that we use together. There is occasionally written work outside of the lesson, but the bulk of the workbook is meant to be completed with me. Advanced students may not require the workbook.
- Repertoire - Student work on 1 - 3 songs (depending on lesson length). Genre depends on student goals and interests.
Typical Drop In Lesson
While a drop in lesson may contain some or all of the elements in a weekly lesson, the elements are more student driven. For example, the student may need to learn specific music for a show or project. They may need help with skill building, such as music theory or ear training. To get the most from a drop in lesson, the student should be in contact with me prior to their scheduled time so that I may prepare as necessary.
