Description
Learn how to create watercolor washes while exploring The Zentangle Method of drawing through two projects that combine the two art forms. Explore basic watercolor technique, pattern drawing skills, and shading/highlight methodology and then use what you learn to create two projects. This class is perfect for beginning and advanced artists and can easily scale to challenge any level of ability.
The class explores watercolors and Zentangle separately for the first lessons. Students then learn how to combine the ideas by creating two projects. The canvases they create in the first set of lessons will be the backdrop for their Zentangle designs. One project will incorporate variations on the patterns they learned in the separate Zentangle lessons. The second project will include several new nature-themed patterns. At the conclusion of this class, students will have many skills and building blocks that they may incorporate into other designs.

The Zentangle Method
The Zentangle Method® asks us to quiet our inner critic and take each part of the drawing one pen stroke at a time. The patterns are learn-as-you-go so students will be encouraged to draw along with the video lessons as they create a pattern palette. The pattern palettes will give them a chance to practice individual patterns and colored pencil techniques before diving into their art pieces. For the wreath project, students will have the option of following my design or creating their own with the patterns they learned. Once the art pieces are inked, students will build on their skills, incorporating what they learned during the pattern palette creation while using color to explore interactions between the pattern elements in the wreath.
Class Structure
Each lesson contains a series of videos that walk students through the patterns, technique, and design. Students should expect to spend 1 - 2 hours on each lesson. If students would like feedback, they may post pictures of their work in the classroom. I'm always happy to look at my student's art!
