Description

About our Class:

In this engaging class, students will embark on an exciting journey to plan a trip abroad. They will immerse themselves in the culture of their chosen destination, master the art of completing a passport application (using fictitious information), and become adept at searching for flights, accommodations, transportation, and sightseeing options. Additionally, they will learn valuable skills such as managing a travel budget, understanding currency, and problem-solving while traveling. This course is thoughtfully designed to integrate essential disciplines such as reading, writing, research, math, technology, and critical thinking. Students will gain proficiency in operating a computer, working with Google Docs and Slides, and utilizing online resources with the guidance of their parents. They may also explore tools like Keynote or PowerPoint. With an expected commitment of 1-2 hours per week, students will create a comprehensive portfolio showcasing their journey in planning a trip. This portfolio, housed in a 3-ring binder with sheet protectors, will serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication. Whether in print or electronic format, the portfolio will capture all the steps and decisions made throughout the planning process.

Class Format:

Our weekly class meetings will be held via Zoom. Students will access their lessons, print worksheets, submit assignments, join discussions, and view their feedback through our classroom platform, Canvas.

I strive to keep our class sizes small so we will have between 4-6 learners in class. This is a good number for student interaction:)

Course Schedule:

Week 1- Culture Research Project and Passport Application

Week 2- Travel Destination and Flights

Week 3- Hotels and Transportation

Week 4- Sightseeing

Week 5- Restaurants, Itineraries, and Conclusion

Week 6- Sharing of Projects
