Hello, I’m Michaela Sellers  

I used to be a public school teacher, but I found that the traditional system just wasn't working for me anymore. I spent so much time worrying about my students' safety, dealing with disruptive behavior that affected everyone’s learning, and teaching a curriculum that didn't meet the needs of my students. It got to the point where this constant battle was taking the joy out of teaching for me.

In 2016, I made a big change. My husband and I hit the road as full-time RVers, exploring the US while he worked. It was amazing, but I really missed teaching. After some soul-searching, I realized that I could still teach in a way that eliminated all the issues I had with traditional education. That’s when I started Unlocking Potential Educational Services, LLC. I brought my 20+ years of teaching experience to a whole new level, offering personalized learning options to students all over the world. Most importantly, I became part of a wonderful community of homeschoolers who, like me, chose to homeschool their kids for similar reasons that led me to leave the traditional classroom.

My classroom environment:

I am passionate about teaching and believe that each child is unique and deserves a personalized learning experience. I take great care to create a low stress learning environment where your child feels comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and can be themselves. If you are taking a group class with me, you will notice small class sizes as I believe that keeping class sizes small provides a better learning experience. 

My curriculum and classes:

I don't use just one specific curriculum for tutoring or my group classes. My teaching materials are a compilation of many different resources as I have found it next to impossible to find one curriculum that has met the needs of every student. 

I offer a wide variety of classes in math, reading, and writing that vary in length and all may not be listed on the IndyEd website yet.  Many of my classes are offered in parts so you can take one class or you can continue on to the next level. Signing up for classes/tutoring:

You will be able to sign up directly from the availability section of each class so you don't have to worry about navigating to yet another site. Once you are registered, I will contact you with a welcome email with all the information you need for the class. If the times listed don't work for you, please email me and I will try my best to accommodate your schedule. I offer group classes bi-monthly throughout the year. 

Payment Options:

I utilize PayPal and Stripe as my payment processor which allows me to accept credit cards. I am also an ESA provider for several states.

Recently, I have found a new passion which is learning everything I can to help students with math disabilities like dyscalculia. I have completed several different training courses and hope to be able to apply this new knowledge in my math classes as well as share what I have learned with parents. I already offer tutoring using the methods I have learned but there will be some parent workshops in the making:)

I am also in the process of creating a variety of math courses where we utilize bricks building blocks to learn different math concepts:)
