Description
The archetype of the fairy is a fascinating and beautiful figure with many facets in literature from around the world. In this class, we will look at some of the faces of the fairy in different fairy tales while searching for the symbolism including both good and bad attributes of the fairy. We will study goblins, elves, leprechauns, and even black dog fairies called Bogies. This is a wonderful class for middle/high school students. This is where the Waldorf curriculum reveals myths and legends from other cultures and themes of archetypes run deep.
We will also have guided writing/journaling, creative writing, and self-led drawing activity in this class. My style of teaching is free-flowing, encouraging, interactive... allowing each student space to absorb their own lesson through the stories themselves, and giving time for personal processing through drawing or writing. We will seek to work with the archetype to answer the question... what can the fairy teach us?
Please bring a 9x12 sketchpad/blank journal and colored pencils to this class each week. Students may also create digital drawings, if preferred.
