Description

Hello!

My name is Shannon, and I am a licensed English teacher in the state of Minnesota. I have been teaching since the fall of 2018. I would absolutely love to work with you or your learner to increase their English Language Arts skills.

Together, students and I can work on grammar, reading comprehension, textual analysis, reading fluency, public speaking, research, essay writing, or any other Language Arts skill.

I am happy to work with students in middle school through college. I am located in St. Paul, MN. Please reach out to me with any questions!

Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations

Anxiety: I am excellent at working with anxious students, as I was an anxious student myself. I highlight the things that students already do well, and we focus heavily on how to continue doing those wonderful things. Working in one new skill at a time is important to me. I am very enthusiastic about successes, and I am gentle with corrections when needed. I also take the time to get to know students, which I feel makes them more comfortable when working with me.

Dyslexia: Students with dyslexia are encouraged to listen to books along with reading them. One of my favorite things to do is read with my students. We often switch who is reading, so that students can hear bits of the text AND they can practice their own reading fluency. I am extremely patient. We will focus heavily on building vocabulary.

Dysgraphia: Students with dysgraphia are welcome to use speech to text. We can work on spelling lists together, but I also enjoy getting to know the words that students think are fun or cool and focusing on those. Again, I am very patient and use gentle correction when needed.
