This class provides a comprehensive study of the American Civil War, starting with an exploration of the social, political, and economic factors that led to the conflict and concluding with the surrenders at Appomattox and Bentonville and their immediate aftermath. We will examine the experiences of both soldiers and civilians, delving into the lives of leaders, politicians, and everyday people on both sides of the war. Students will be encouraged to think critically and consider the issues from various perspectives.
