Experience
Students need to have completed a minimum of 2 years of ASL before enrolling in this course, or other prerequisites listed above.
Class policy
Each student must have a camera on during this so that I can help them with the correct hand-forms and locations, this is an essential part of learning in this course. Student's will also be engaging and practicing their ASL signs with conversations and their hands must be seen for this. If the student does not want their face seen, they may angle the camera to only show their hands.
Teacher Expertise
I have been fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) for 10 years and have studied the language for 16 years. I took courses at Gallaudet University, have my double certificate in ASL from International Open Academy, and am heavily involved in the Deaf community in my area. I love children, ASL, and reading! I am excited to expand my knowledge to your children through this exciting course!

Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations
There are many benefits to learning Sign Language! One is to help bridge the communication gap. Often times, individuals with neurodivergent differences struggle with communication. In some instances are non-verbal. This experience for a child can bring much frustration or behavioral difficulties due to the lack of communication skills. Teaching American Sign Language (ASL) can help bridge the gap of communication skills and improve the overall happiness that families experience because they are able to communicate more effectively.
Students without such severe neurodivergence difference can also benefit greatly! Having a different form of communication, other than speaking, for anxiety is extremely beneficial. Students with anxiety often struggle with communicating their feelings when they are in an uncomfortable situation. Having a different way to communicate their feelings to loved ones is highly beneficial.
ASL is an incredible language for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia as well. The language is a visual and gestural language which makes learning a second language much easier than spoken languages for students with these difficulties.
Learning ASL helps develop confidence. The ability to communicate wants and needs even on a basic level helps to contribute to learners having more self-confidence. Sign Language is not the only way to build self-confidence, but it is definitely a great option!
Another notable benefit is helping the learner to build independence. As teachers and parents we always want our children and students to be as independent as possible as they navigate their way through life being independent and able to communicate basic wants and needs.
In summary, ASL helps bridge communication gaps, is a visual and gestural language which is beneficial for students who struggle with reading, writing, and spoken languages, it helps develop confidence, and builds independence.
