Short Summary

French 1 for high school students. This course is great for absolute beginners. Students meet 75 minutes per week for 35 weeks. Reading, writing, speaking, listening, culture, and grammar are all included.

Availability

This course is offered at two different times: Tuesdays 1:15-2:30, or Thursdays 9:15-10:30 am Eastern Standard Time. It begins the week of August 12th and will meet 35 times, ending the week of May 19th 2025. Classes are recorded so that students who are absent can review the live class. 

The cost quoted here is for a class size of five to eight students. If all registered learners agree to a larger class size, and additional students join, a rebate is available. Sibling discounts and referral credits are also available.

This course for absolute beginners of French meets all the learning outcomes of a high school French I course. Following the standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language, the course is rigorous, engaging, and effective. Students learn the most common vocabulary first, enabling them to communicate about high interest topics quickly. Comprehensible input methods are used to ensure students have context and the opportunity to pick up on language naturally. Grammar is explicitly taught, and the course covers all of the modes of communication as well as culture of the francophone world. Students can expect about 3 hours of homework each week, including assessments. Teacher provides individualized feedback on independent work and adjusts class content as needed to ensure that students have a solid foundation. This class is taught by Global Goose owner, Summer Osborn.
