Description

Children who are just starting to learn to read or having trouble learning to read need a patient, encouraging tutor who understands how kids learn to read, keeps up with the research, and uses methods that work quickly and effectively.

The Reading Simplified® Method

Reading Simplified, the method I use, is both fun and effective for any child learning to read, including dyslexic children. Reading Simplified streamlines the process of learning to read (hence the name). For more on its effectiveness with dyslexic children, please see the section on Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations below.

Class Structure

Our first lesson will consist of a simple assessment, along with a game of Would You Rather. After that, your student will begin at just the right level. Reading Simplified is a method, not a curriculum. Lessons are always tailored for the individual student.

Pricing Information

While the single-session option is helpful if you'd like to try out a couple of classes before making a commitment, discounts are offered for my 4-session and 8-session bundles. Lessons should occur at least once a week (of course, it's expected that there might be some unavoidable absences, but we can work together to avoid those as much as possible). So once you've committed to ongoing classes, it makes sense to choose one of the bundles. The coupons referenced in the short summary reflect those discounts, but anyone choosing a bundle will receive those discounts automatically.

With the 4-session bundle, lessons occur once a week, and with the 8-session bundle, lessons will occur twice a week. More frequent classes will both help students retain learning and move them through the process at least twice as fast. This is a great choice for any student, but it's an especially good choice for those who are reading well below grade level and need to catch up quickly.

The 8-session bundle is the best deal, because students will make the same progress or better than they would with two 4-session bundles, but they will do so more quickly and at a greater discount.

Pricing is as follows:

1 session – $60

4 sessions/month – $204* (a 15% discount)

8 sessions/month – $384* (a 20% discount)

* Classes should be taken within 4 weeks (there is a grace period adding another week if necessary). Monthly bundles are billed in advance.

Some students benefit from more than 2 classes per week. You will receive a 20% discount for any number of classes per month over 8.

Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations

Reading Simplified®, the method I use, works well with dyslexic students. Compared to Orton-Gillingham (OG), it takes a more streamlined approach that allows children to move forward much more quickly than they would with OG. While both approaches are excellent, Reading Simplified's founder, Dr. Marnie Ginsberg, has written an article that clarifies the differences between Reading Simplified and OG:

Challenging Orton-Gillingham: Defining Its Limits and Bridging the Gaps With Reading Simplified

In addition, Reading Simplified tutor and coach Adrienne Mormino wrote about her own experiences using both OG and Reading Simplified, and in particular her experience tutoring a specific child who did better with Reading Simplified:

My Dyslexic Student Used Reading Simplified Then Orton-Gillingham: Here’s What Happened
