This is a Self-Paced class that will be available in its entirety upon purchase and remain accessible for single-family use (including multiple learners within a single household) indefinitely.
Description
I am a fully independent educator running my classes (hosted on Teachable) through my own website.
This class is part of my Middle School Writing Foundations series, which is a great introduction to academic writing for middle schoolers who haven't had much experience with formal writing assignments up to this point.
Note-taking is one of the most important and critical skills writers can develop. A strong note-taking system makes every step of future writing easier throughout a writer's life.
No one else can tell you how to take notes. You have to figure out what system works for you, and it might not look like anyone else's!
When you have a system that works, it provides many benefits:
- Stronger reading comprehension
- Higher information recall
- Attention to detail
- Identification of key quotes and stats
Over 8 weeks (suggested schedule), learners will learn about and practice the following note-taking methods:
- Cornell Notes
- Sketchnotes
- Guided Notes
- Annotation
They'll put these into use on a range of texts:
- Informative Article
- Informative Video
- Narrative Fiction
- Visual Advertisement
Finally, learners will use their notes to craft a summary of a text of their choice.
Schedule/Time Commitment: Learners can expect to spend 2-3 hours a week working on class materials including reading articles, practicing note-taking styles, and completing writing activities.
(Pricing Note: This class is offered on a Sliding Fee Scale. The listed price is the market rate, but other options are available.)
