*Non-refundable deposit of $25 is due 1 week before classes begin to hold a spot. The deposit will be put toward the cost of the class. 

**Pay in full by deposit due date and receive 10% discount, otherwise weekly payments of $25 is due by Sunday evening of each week

Description

Lessons Goals: Students will gain strategies, learn rules about patterns and grammar....in which to develop and/or strengthen skills in reading and spelling, as well as reading comprehension, and reading and writing fluency skills. It will also provide learners with practice for oral reading and oral language development.

Orton-Gillingham

“Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in spoken words and the understanding that spoken words and syllables are made up of sequences of speech sounds”(Yopp, 1992; see References).

•Reading, spelling, and writing instruction for people with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, English Language Learners. 

*Learners should be able to identify letters of the alphabet and their sounds. 

*Learners should be able to decode and encode CVC, CCVC, CVCC words. 

Lessons

Each class will be a cumulative review of past spelling and language rules and phonemes from previous classes, in addition to new material. 

Students will practice reading and spelling words from previous weeks. They will read passages with review and new patterns, and answer related questions . Sentences with review and new patterns will be dictated to learners for spelling and sentence writing practice.  

Assessments

Students will be assessed informally during each class. Informal, written assessments will be given after roughly 15 lessons. 

Materials 

Handouts (Student Recording Sheets) will be provided before each class. 

A printer for weekly printouts for each lesson. A 3-ring binder or folder for each lesson for future reference. (A notebook to write lessons in if choosing not to print handouts.)

Pencil

Tactile surface: sandpaper, sponge, any textured surface. 

Homework 

Option of homework upon request.

Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations

Extensive Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham Training. 

Experience with ADHD students. Wait time, Redirection, Movement Breaks, Academic Games

Dysgraphia - some training - Variety of options for writing, math activities, movement breaks.
