Welcome to Alphabetic Principles - Foundations for Success!

Hi, I’m Sadie!  I am a much loved fur baby. I am really sweet and inquisitive. I am a friendly kitty, but usually shy at first. I love to hear about my mommy’s classes, and the different worksheets and activities she creates. I would love to meet everyone. So be on the lookout for me. When I am feeling shy, I  am hidden my mommy’s ads. So, you will have to look real closely for me! If you find me, you can get discounts and freebies from my mom and Alphabetic Principles.

"As an Orton-Gillingham instructor, I know the importance of learning ways to increase fluency in spelling and reading with multisyllabic words. I have been working with children of various abilities and ages using what I have learned about the science of reading. I am an avid reader, so I understand the magic of stories.”

“Reading is a passport to countless adventures.~Mary Pope Osborne (Magic Tree House Book Series).

My career:

My name is Caryn. I have nearly 30 years of experience as an educator. I studied Sociology and Early Childhood Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and earned my teaching license from Framingham State University. Throughout my career I have gained experience teaching a variety of age groups, (pre-school-high school), individually, small group, as a classroom teacher, and a homeschool teacher.

As an educator, I worked with students with a variety of abilities and disabilities, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, language disorders, and English Language Learners. I provided individualized instruction, for students of all ages, in an acute care psychiatric facility. During my time in the classroom, I had a variety of trainings and classes on the Science of Reading, different reading programs, and the implementation of various literacy assessments. I was hired as a math liaison to coordinate math curriculum, assessments, and school programs for students and teachers in kindergarten through 3rd grade, in my district. I also have the Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement.

Several years ago, I started Alphabetic Principles to provide individual academic support to students ranging from kindergarten through high school, in phonemic awareness, reading comprehension and fluency, writing, and math fluency.  I received extensive training in Orton-Gillingham and Dyscalculia interventions for all age groups. I have provided support for students who receive speech and language therapy in a private practice, and also worked with other educators to administer initial language and math assessments. I have also developed classes and curriculum for small groups of homeschoolers.

I live in Massachusetts with my family. During my free time, I enjoy reading and watching movies.

What I do:

  • I provide 1-1 learning for students based on parent/guardian feedback and informal assessments.
  • Instruction is based on the Science of Reading and Math.
  • I provide services for students learning to read, right, and spell with and without dyslexia, or other spelling, reading, language disorders. English language learners. Students with dyscalculia.
  • Classes are:

       •Structured

       •Sequential

       •Incremental

       •Cumulative

       •Flexible

       •Multi-sensory

       •Language-Based

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Reviews

  • Caryn at Alphabetic Principles is simply the best! Scheduling tutoring sessions is incredibly easy! My son enjoys his time with Caryn and often asks when their next session is. His teachers are very impressed with his reading progress!!! He is feeling more confident as a reader, which in turn is building confidence in all other academic AND social areas. Highly recommend Alphabetic Principles!
  • Caryn is fantastic! My kids and I love her! She works with your children at their own pace and really takes the time to make a personalized education experience for them.
  • Caryn has been such great help with tutoring. We have been with her for over a year and she has been a great help.
  • Thank you for your professional skills and hard work in supporting my son as he develops. Your commitment and patience has meant a lot and very important in my son's development.
  • We love Caryn from Alphabetic Principles! She is kind and patient. She understands what my child's strengths and weaknesses are and plans accordingly. She was recommended to us, and we highly recommend her. She helped my daughter so much with math, number sense and reading. She's been a fundamental part of my daughter's success.
  • My daughter has worked with Ms. Caryn for a couple of years! She has had a great improvement on both her reading and writing. We love the convenience of zoom classes and how flexible Ms Caryn is. We would absolutely recommend Alphabetic Principles for any child that needs some extra help with their reading and writing.
  • We can't recommend Caryn enough! Her Alphabetic Principles classes and tutoring have been amazing for our kids. They love her fun and engaging approach to learning, and we've seen a significant improvement in their reading and spelling skills. Caryn is incredibly patient and supportive, and she creates a positive learning environment that keeps our kids motivated. She's a true gem, and we highly recommend her to anyone looking for a top-notch educator for their children.
  • We have tried many spelling programs/tutors over the last two years without much success. Over the summer, she has been working with an Orton Gillingham Tutor, Caryn Azer, and has made great progress. She made more progress in six weeks than she did all last year. She will continue the Orton Gillingham Program 2-3 times per week during the school year.
  • Great communication, both with the student and parent. It has really made my daughter like math and her struggles with it easier. She is going to continue taking classes with Caryn because for the first time ever, I heard my daughter say, "I like math; it isn't so bad." WOW! Amazing.

Let's build your child's foundation together!
