Jumpstart Geometry is for students who plan to take Geometry in the fall, students who have finished Algebra I, or students who are currently struggling with the basics of Geometry. Whether your learner is just beginning Geometry or just needs a refresher, future success depends on fully understanding the basics. This course covers the basics of Geometry.

In this class, students will learn to:

Identify, name, and draw points, lines, segments, rays, and planes.

Apply basic facts about points, lines, and planes.

Find length and midpoint of a segment.

Use the Segment Addition Postulate.

Define and apply concepts of congruent, midpoint, and bisects.

Name, classify, and measure angles.

Find angle measures using the Angle Addition Postulate.

Find angle measures using the Definition of Angle Bisector.

Identify adjacent, vertical, complementary, supplementary and linear pairs of angles.

Find the measures of pairs of angles using arithmetic and algebraic methods.

Calculate or find expressions for the perimeter and area of rectangles, squares, and triangles.

Calculate or find the expressions for circumference and area of a circle.

Solve problems involving area and perimeter using algebraic methods.

Develop and apply the formula to find the midpoint between two points in the coordinate plane.

Use the distance formula to find the distance between two points.

Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points.

Guided notes and practice assignments (homework) are provided for each class. However, homework is optional. I take my lead from parents as you know your child's needs best. Students may turn in homework, or not. I am happy to give individual feedback on homework which is turned in on time. I post homework answers in the classroom the evening before the next class meeting.

Some parents choose to have their child turn in homework, other parents choose to check their child's homework themselves with the answers I provide. And, some parents do not require their child to complete the homework, or only complete part of the homework. I am happy to customize the homework assignments to meet your child's needs. I am also willing to provide challenge problems for students who are interested.

During each class meeting, time will be devoted to reviewing practice assignments and reviewing skills. Students will have the opportunity to request questions they want me to review in class, and the opportunity to ask questions on assignments. Then, I will led the student through a new lesson using the guided notes. And, I am always available through the Outschool messaging system for students who need help between class meetings. Class recording will be provided for students who are unable to attend class. However, students must first attend at least part of one meeting to have access to future class recordings.

Look at my parent reviews on Outschool to read about how other students enjoyed and learned from my Mathematics courses. And, please message me if you have any questions.
