Hello!

My name is Mimi. I am an independent online Geography teacher. My specialty is Country Studies where every week I present a different country of the world.

I currently offer three ongoing World Geography Country Studies classes and one eight-week class focusing on the Geography of Africa. I have listed them below:

World Geography - Country Studies (10yo - 14yo) - Ongoing - You can join any time

World Geography - Country Studies (14yo - 18yo) - Ongoing - You can join any time

World Geography - Country Studies - Private Lessons (10yo - 18yo) - The same as above, except it's one on one

World Geography - Africa! (10yo - 14yo) - An Eight-Week Class

All my lessons are created on Nearpod.

If you or your child enjoys map work and Physical Geography, please consider signing up. Human Geography/Culture will also be covered, especially discussions about different ethnic groups, languages, current events, etc.  

The lessons are in a presentation format, but I encourage students to participate and ask questions.The more engaged the students are, the more interesting the lessons. Some students choose to create slides which I incorporate into my lessons. Your student can do the same. With respect to my unschooling philosophy, however, participation is voluntary. It is my firm belief that every student should feel comfortable in class. 

I have ten years of experience teaching in the Texas public schools, primarily at the secondary level. I have taught Special Education classes, but am not certified as a Special Ed teacher. ND students seem to do well with me since 25% of my students are classified as ND. Some have been with me for over three years. I also welcome ESL students. I was an ESL student myself with English being my third language. I am a naturalized American citizen.  

I am also a former unschooling parent of twin sons with special needs, both physical and ND. Growing up, my sons were almost entirely self-directed and autodidactic. They taught themselves how to read and write - It was POWERFUL!  As a former parent at home involved in a homeschooling group, I also have 10 years of experience teaching Geography to homeschoolers.
