This course is the second part of Advanced Composition/LETU English courses.
This course focuses on argumentation, logic, and professional writing, with an emphasis on utilizing personal computers for planning, drafting, and revising written projects. Each student is required to write a fully documented research paper and deliver an oral presentation in class. Prerequisite: ENGL 1013.
**Course Goals (Per LETU Syllabus):**
- Develop critical thinking skills through reading, studying, and evaluating texts in both written and oral assignments.
- Enhance your ability to understand and engage in productive argumentation by studying argument theory and methods, as well as logic and reasoning; apply this understanding in major essays and in-class responses.
- Improve your skills in selecting, assessing, integrating, and engaging with sources rhetorically; demonstrate these abilities in your major research paper and in-class assignments.
- Learn to design and construct effective arguments using specific organizational models; showcase your skills in each written argument essay.
- Write rhetorically effective texts in all essay assignments.
- Develop effective oral communication skills, using language appropriate for your audience; demonstrate these abilities in your oral argument.
- While grounding class discussions in a Christian worldview, appreciate diverse perspectives and seek common ground; this skill will be integral to all written and oral arguments.
- Learn the fundamentals of constructing an argumentative textual analysis, demonstrated through a literary analysis assignment.
