There are two sections of this class available:

This English III course offers a comprehensive survey of American literature, spanning from the writings of the Puritans to the Modernism of the mid-20th century. Students will explore the characteristics of various literary movements, including Puritan/Colonial writing, Romanticism, Realism, Naturalism, Modernism, and Post-Modernism.

The primary objective of this course is to analyze works for themes, symbolism, plot, and characterization, encouraging students to think deeply and purposefully. While the curriculum follows the traditional canon of American literature, it also highlights the richness of the field by introducing lesser-known authors through the study of poems, short stories, and essays curated by the teacher. This approach makes the course comparable to a college-preparatory English class while enhancing its dynamism.

Students will engage in literary analysis compositions and participate in discussions designed to deepen insight, answer questions, and develop communication skills. Vocabulary from the texts will be incorporated, and quizzes will be administered. Due to the interactive nature of the class, a functioning microphone will be required.

Teacher: Mrs. Jess Woods
