Description
This class is held 1:1 via Zoom.
Ensure high student interest with a holiday break novel study of their choosing. Learners will choose from numerous options with The Book Umbrella's excellent novel studies. You do not need to purchase the chosen novel study!
Simply filter by grade and student interest, make your choice and let me handle the rest! Communicate the chosen book study and I will get to work creating an outline for our classes.
All lessons will cover a full range of literacy skills including:
- Vocabulary study
- Multiple choice, short answer and long answer questions
- Summarizing and responding to events in the story
- Character analysis, making predictions, setting, theme
Students will need a copy of the book. I recommend your local library. Between classes and in preparation for the next section, your student will be provided with a short homework packet. It consists of vocabulary definitions, vocabulary use, multiple choice questions about what they've read and a chapter summary. It is due by the beginning of the next class. Completing this will help them recall what they've read and be prepared to discuss in class. The next week's homework packet will be available immediately following our current week's class.
During the class, we will review and discuss their submitted work, using any remaining time to begin partner reading the next section of the book.
Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations
I am the homeschooling parent of four children, several of whom are neurodivergent. The learning differences in my home(school) include Autism, ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder and Intellectual Disability. My classes are not "one size fits all" and are highly accommodating with emphasis on parent input and feedback. I strive to learn how each student learns best.
