There are two sections of this class available:

Language Arts II is designed to cultivate well-rounded, critical-thinking eighth graders, preparing them for high school and college while also being suitable for those not yet ready for English I.

This course will actively engage students in enhancing their grammar, vocabulary, composition, and literary analysis skills. Students will learn how grammar affects sentence structure and practice correct usage and mechanics. A solid understanding of language structure will serve as a foundation for mastering writing organization, idea development, and MLA formatting through six writing assignments, which include several literary essays and one short research paper.

The literature explored in this course spans a wide array of interests and topics, featuring full-text classic and contemporary novels, nonfiction, drama, short stories, and poetry. Students will be challenged to delve deeply into the texts to uncover life lessons through literary elements such as theme, characterization, and symbolism. Vocabulary studies will be tailored to align with the reading materials, ensuring relevance.

Throughout the semester, students will grow academically through in-class discussions, writing assignments, and constructive feedback from the teacher.
