Description
Math Bridge - 6th Grade Class Information
See our full course description and additional information such as required supplies on our website.
This Bridge Math course is a comprehensive sixth-grade mathematics program designed to facilitate a smooth transition from elementary to junior high math. Our goal is to equip students with the practice and skills necessary for success in the next grade level.
Building on foundational skills in operations, fractions, and decimals, this course covers a variety of essential topics, including number properties, multiplication and division of fractions and decimals, ratios, rates, percentages, algebraic expressions, area, surface area, volume, integers, number lines, the coordinate plane, statistical measures, and data displays.
While students will learn step-by-step methods for mastering these concepts, they will also engage with real-world math problems that require reasoning and logic. Though these topics may seem advanced, they are presented in a clear and accessible manner, ensuring students gain both mastery and confidence. This course will thoroughly prepare students for higher levels of math.
All Excelsior math instructors will use the Big Ideas Math curriculum by Ron Larson, Ph.D., and Laurie Boswell, Ed.D., which is designed to equip students for higher-level and college mathematics. Students will have access to a digital platform with various tools to enhance their learning experience, including instant feedback on homework. Please note that the materials used in Excelsior math classes are not aligned with Common Core standards.
Parents and students can expect weekly homework assignments, chapter quizzes, tests, a midterm, and a final exam.
