Description
Back in the early 2000's, I was a burnt out private elementary school teacher tired of dragging my students through the latest math curriculum fad my private school chose. I was weary of seeing sad-faced learners when I passed back their math tests covered in red X's. I was frustrated by the typical math learning grind we were expected to drag our students through from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I knew that math education could be better through real life math connections, but, I didn't know how to change how I taught math. Yet. After all, I was a product of my own industrial math education programming.
Enter Don Tolman. Don Tolman, known as the whole food cowboy, is a health and wellness teacher and brilliant educator. He came to our school to do a seminar on health and wellness and holistic education. He floored me when he showed us beautiful connections there are with nature and mathematics through mysterious numbers. Those mysterious numbers are the Golden ratio (1.618) and the Fibonacci numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 24, 34...etc.). These numbers are found everywhere from ancient to modern architecture, Fibonacci spirals found in a sunflower seed head to the numbers of petals on a daisy.
Don sparked a realization in me that I could create a new, exciting and inspirational math learning experience for K - 12 education connecting math with the real world. I set out on a 7 year research quest that led to the creation of the MathArt online program which has served thousands of home and school educators since 2003.

Neurodivergency Specializations and Accommodations
NatureGlo's eScience online MathArt self-paced course is superb for neurodivergent learners including autistic, math anxiety and dyscalculia. Over the years of teaching MathArt online to homeschool and school children, I've received positive feedback from the parents and the learners with Autism, dyscalculia and math anxiety. There is no pressure for learners to perform calculations, memorization, drills, nor any typical traditional math learning expectations. There are no tests. Learner performance participation is optional including any chosen projects, activities and experiences they choose to do from the course.
