Description
Pre-Algebra Class Information
See our full course description and additional information such as required supplies on our website.
Pre-Algebra is a foundational math course typically taken before Algebra I, designed to prepare students for success in higher-level math classes. This 8th-grade course will cover essential topics such as multi-step equations, basic geometry, graphing and writing linear equations, systems of linear equations, data analysis, functions, exponents, scientific notation, and the Pythagorean Theorem.
Students will not only learn step-by-step methods for solving equations but also tackle real-world math problems, using reasoning and logic to make informed conjectures. This rigorous course sets the stage for success in Algebra I and beyond.
All Excelsior math instructors will use the Big Ideas Math curriculum by Ron Larson, Ph.D., and Laurie Boswell, Ed.D., which is designed to equip students for higher-level and college mathematics. Students will have access to a digital platform with various tools to enhance their learning experience, including instant feedback on homework. Please note that the materials used in Excelsior math classes are not aligned with Common Core standards.
Parents and students can expect weekly homework assignments, chapter quizzes, tests, a midterm, and a final exam.
