Are you a looking to build your skill in drawing from observation? Anyone can learn, even those who say "I can't draw!" 

Whether you are a beginner or a novice, I'd love to teach you the skills you need to translate what you are looking at in real life into a drawing in your sketchbook.  

Learning to draw is about expanding your perceptual skill, and I'll teach you to SEE differently. From that, all else follows! We'll dive into contour, negative space, proportions, and value - we start simple and expand out. 

We'll start with pencil, then add charcoal highlights. As we move forward, especially beyond the basics, we can consider delving into other media: colored pencil, art crayons, pen and ink, collage.

PLEASE KNOW THAT IT'S CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU PRACTICE BETWEEN OUR SESSIONS TO GAIN PROGRESS! 

It's the practicing that will cement the skills for you.

WHY STUDY WITH ME?

I'm a teaching artist & certified art teacher with more than 25 years of experience, and I've taught observational drawing to many students. 

I began my own observational drawing journey at age 11 - and those skills gave me the tools I needed to start developing my own illustration style.  

I take great joy in helping novice or slightly more experienced artists who are looking for a boost in their life drawing skills!

HOW TO SCHEDULE?

Please reach out to discuss how I might help you or your learner! 

If you are starting from scratch, a grounding in the basics will take a good 12 weeks. 

I suggest hour-long sessions for older learners and adult - I can modify the length to 45 minutes for younger students if necessary.
