Why Sentence Diagramming?

Learning the ins and outs of grammar really clicked for me when I took a Linguistics class in college and discovered the magic of sentence diagramming. Suddenly, all those patterns and rules that had baffled me since elementary school started to make sense.

Unlike traditional grammar workbooks, where you might memorize definitions in isolation, sentence diagramming forces you to understand how each word functions within a sentence. It's like putting together a puzzle—you see how all the parts fit together to create meaning and patterns.

Course Information

In each meeting, I will start by outlining what the class cover for the day. Students will learn about a new part of speech or aspect of diagramming, with examples presented on Google Slides. Then, students will practice diagramming sample sentences on their own. We will discuss answers, and students will have the opportunity to create their own sentences to diagram. Each class will involve a mix of lectures and sharing sessions.

No prior experience is necessary to join this class. Even if students are familiar with nouns and verbs, they will still benefit from the gradual addition of new parts of speech and important grammar rules.

I'm excited to share the benefits of sentence diagramming with new learners because I've seen it help so many students.  Though it may be a dry topic to some, I think your learner will feel my enthusiasm throughout our classes. I cannot wait to see them learn and grow!
