Part 1 will start in September and end at the beginning of December.
Part 2 will run from January to April
Part 3 will be four classes that will run in May
Description
This is a three-part course that will follow the Institute of Excellence in writing text, Wonders of Science. Learners will explore different science topics, while learning how to organize their thoughts, and then write interesting paragraphs by systematically adding words and phrases to make it more interesting.
Live classes will be interactive as we explore the first five units of the IEW method and will cover topics like honey bees, Archimedes, Rumpelstiltskin, spacesuits, and meteorites. For now, all live classes are hosted on Outschool.
The first two parts will be twelve weeks long with planned breaks. The last part will be four weeks, typically in May.
Homework
Homework is required for this course, but you as the parent have control over how much. I highly recommend your learner progress through the program by participating in all homework assignments, BUT I can differentiate the assignments and rubrics to fit your learner's needs.
Feedback and Grading
I will provide feedback and/or grading on every lesson in the form of a PDF from Google Forms. It will be consistent with the checklists at the end of every lesson IEW provides.
Each student should be using Google Docs to turn in assignments through Google Classroom. I will provide a detailed video showing you how to use these applications for this course.
Placement
If you are unsure about what class to sign your child up for, just send me a message so we can set up a consultation.
BONUS:
Learners will have access to recordings showing them how to participate in projects. These are a great way to put their compositions to good use! Create an ebook, podcast, or fake Instagram account!
