See our full course description and additional information such as required supplies on our website.
This high school course examines the politics, history, philosophies, and worldviews of the 20th century, from the Cold War to 9/11. Covering key events such as the Yalta Conference, Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech, and the 9/11 attacks, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these events shaped the modern world.
Major themes include postmodernism's influence on 21st-century ideas, Cold War global politics, and the impact of social changes. Weekly mini-assignments will assess students' grasp of the material and support their final six-page research paper based on primary sources. The course features two open-book, open-note tests with study guides provided. Classes will include lectures and discussions, with a reading load of roughly 15 pages to a book per week, balanced by shorter documents. This course is designed for 10th to 12th graders, though younger students may inquire about a modified workload.
Teacher: Mrs. Claire Patton
